Christmas Textures Art Activity

December 17, 2019

I just wanted to post a quick art activity that I did with one of my students this week. I gathered a few Christmas items (bubble wrap, ornament hooks, an ornament, tulle, a Christmas tree branch, a bow, tissue paper, and ribbon) and had the student do rubbings of each one on a piece of tracing paper.

After we did all of the items, I had the student trace a Christmas tree and then color the tree with the piece of a Christmas tree branch under the paper. I let him choose which textures that we wanted to use for the tree trunk and the star. It was a bit tricky, because some of these items aren't very flat, but we made it work and I think it looked pretty cool.

Supplies:

  • Tracing paper,

  • Crayons,

  • Items such as: bubble wrap, ornament hooks, an ornament, tulle, a Christmas tree branch, a bow, tissue paper, or ribbon.

I also made a version of the activity about trains for one of my students. You could use a version of this activity for various student interests.

This activity was adapted from a lesson in this art curriculum:
